Week 13!

anne-lamott-quote

so lousy mummy took the multi vits for 2 days and her body decided it will reject all multi vits. hubs tried to cut the pill into 2 for my easy swallowing but the pill just wont go down. i end up gagging or vomitting out everything. felt so lousy that i am unable to take the multi vit ;( the calcium is okay because hubs bought the powder form, so i just mix it in orange juice and drink it all up. the fish oil DHA is also ok because it is a small soft gel.

anyways, it is Week 13 Day 1 now. Nausea is still there every morning and evening. i am also still feeling lethargic and exhausted every single day. im in bed usually after dinner and i try to sleep by 9pm or 10pm. but by 2am im usually up for god knows what reason. and then i find it hard to settle back to sleep properly. i just cant find a comfortable position.

preggie woman are not encouraged to lie on their back to sleep as the weight of the growing uterus presses on the major vein that returns blood from the lower body to the heart. Hence lying on the back for an extended period of time could make the mummy feel dizzy and interfere with blood flow and nutrients to the placenta and the baby.

i also found out that when i lie on my right, i have a stronger urge to pee.

it is also recommended to sleep on the left. which i find gives me a tummy ache!

some have recommended to buy a pregnancy pillow which will help preggie mummies to sleep better but these pillows come up to a few hundreds! omg.

and oh yes, according to BabyCentre, fingerprints have formed on the baby’s fingertips, the veins and organs are clearly visible through the still-thin skin, and the body is starting to catch up with the head — which makes up just a third of the body size now. It is so awesome to read weekly updates from these newsletters. i signed up for BabyCentre and Kidspot. as a first time mummy, these updates helps me to understand what im going through is actually quite normal and i am also able to look forward to baby’s development each week.

Baby baby, please continue to grow! Cant wait to see you on 27 Sept. Mama and Papa loves ya.

Week 12 Day 7

Visit to Dr Siow on Saturday went good. our NT scan results came back surprisingly good. so we are less concern about the down syndrome now. phew. next visit in a month’s time. my first take of blood pressure was slightly high, and they were abit concerned but i figured it was all the rushing from work to gleneagles and then the stressin to find a carpark and make it to our appointment on time. they retook my blood pressure at the end of the appointment with Dr Siow and it came back all good. phewwwww… all this stress…

By the way, we decided to include our Wish List as you can see on the right side, if you guys have any hand me downs or know of any good deals, please feel free to share! If you are feeling generous and not sure of what to buy for our baby, hehehehee, you can refer to that list too. 🙂

I am finally done with the Utrogestan but it also means i am now on various vitamins to ensure healthy growth of the fetus. Hubs ordered these supplements from iherb which was delivered to our doorstep within a week! He did extensive research on the type of supplements to take to ensure that the quantity of vitamins are enough per dosage and that i do not overlap any vitamins and that they are easy to consume. i really hate those giant capsules, i find it so hard to swallow and i end up gagging on it. bahh.

We also checked out Baby Kingdom and Baby Hyperstore at Kaki Bukit on Saturday. The choices were great, prices were average, not like they were the cheapest around, but i guess it was a good place to go to compare our options.

Baby’s Hyperstore : 69 Kaki Bukit Avenue 1 Shun Li Industrial Park Singapore 417947

Baby Kingdom : 83 Kaki Bukit Ave 1 Shun Li Industrial Park, Singapore 417954

Both open till 9pm. More convenient if you drive as it is an industrial area!

Oh yes, and the other thing very terrible about being pregnant is….. CONSTIPATION. i have already been drinking yakult and eating lots of fruits and drinking lots of water, but sometimes it just wont come out! and when it does, it is so painful that i can murder someone. bahhhh. so dear mummys-to-be, keep eating fruits to keep the output smooth!

I am about into Week 13, so just for records, no i cant feel the baby movement YET and i have no idea on the gender either. baby is only about 6cm and still forming the main organs and stuff so ask me in about 7 weeks again! and yes, pls ask permission if you would like to touch the baby bump. i am very sensitive to people touching me and more so that now there isnt any movement that you can feel so why are you touching me!! argh.

Reflections of a mom-to-be

So, since we announced a few days back, we have been getting alot of advises from existing mummies and daddies. some are really good advises and of course we have some who gave us nonsense advise. some made sacarstic remarks like when we announced it, someone commented “wah so fast”. what was that supposed to mean?! hey! we are married and of course a bun in the oven is in the pipeline, what do you mean so fast? sounds abit sour to me.

and then there were people who try to force their ideas on us by saying this stroller good, that car seat no good, cot is better than playpen, this breastpump is better than that.  but do they not realise each parent and each baby is different? what works for you may not work for us and our baby. i know it is good intention but sometimes some people just made it come out the wrong way. so no thanks for your advise.

hubs and i are just gonna take it cool, appreciate the support we been having and grateful for the good advises that are coming our way as first time parents. in fact, as much as this is our first born, we do not mind hand me downs. like baby cot. the important thing is the mattress. so we do not mind a hand me down cot and we will get a good mattress. clothes… pyjamas… babies grow out of them fast! so why not take over from someone who probably only worn it once or twice? of course we will get some new clothes but im just saying that it really doesnt matter to us that we get everything new. but of course different people think differently.

anyway, we did the OSCAR test last saturday and seeing Dr Siow tomorrow for the test results. For the benefit of those who are not sure what this test is about, it is usually done between Week 11 and Week 14 of the pregnancy, an ultrasound is done to measure the clear (translucent) space in the tissue at the back of the baby’s neck. It is proven that babies with abnormalities tend to accumulate more fluid at the back of the neck during 1st trimester, hence the clear space will be thicker (larger) than average. i think the space should not be more than 3.5mm. A blood test is also taken and together with the ultrasound, the doctor can determine if there are any serious abnormalities in the fetal growth. The nasal bone is also evaluated for the presence or absence. it is definitely not 100% accurate, of course there are more expensive tests if parents would like to have a more accurate result and nowadays you can also find out the sex of the baby from the more expensive test. The test i took is called NT (Nuchal Translucency) Test, this is to assess the risk of having down syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities. The whole experience took us about 30 mins and the test results will probably take 1 week.

The next big test that we will do is the Detailed Scan at 20 weeks where we can determine the sex of the baby as well as make sure all the important organs are growing well. That would be in about 8 weeks time! whee.

These days i been vomitting a bit more. in the mornings when i brush my teeth, the nausea feeling is almost unbearable. there was one morning where i gagged and gagged until i puked out some bubbly greenish liquid. yuck. the feeling in the evenings are worst. last evening, i puked out all the snacks i ate before i had dinner. just some chicken nuggets and sotong ball. but the feeling was so painful. i was gagging like mad with nothing coming out but it was non stop and then finally it all came out after vomitting like 5 times in a row. mucus and vomit coming out from my nose, i was tearing cos it was so painful to my head and throat.

yikes. ;( definitely not nice at all.

the night time run to the toilet has reduced though so i hope things just get better from here.

i also started listening to Baby Mozart and nursery rhymes when im lying in bed. Its like quiet time for me and baby.

Cant wait to see you tomorrow, Baby. and perhaps Dr Siow will give the all clear and its time to start on the next level of Supplements and Vitamins. Onward!
